Compare the behaviour across several games and follow the manufacturer’s support for your model. A reset doesn’t guarantee a hardware fault will be fixed.
Confirm what you are seeing
Stick drift is movement detected while you are not touching the joystick. Note whether the camera turns, the character moves and which stick seems affected. Tell this apart from a stuck button or a disconnection.
Try to see whether it happens in one game or in several situations. This helps describe the fault. A game setting and a controller fault shouldn’t be confused on the basis of a single test.
Use the right manufacturer’s procedure
PlayStation provides a reset procedure and checks for the DualSense. Follow the official help that matches your controller exactly. A PS5 procedure should not be applied automatically to a PS4 or an Xbox.
An update or reset can be part of the recommended troubleshooting, but doesn’t prove the components are in good condition. Note the result of your tests rather than repeating a step with no change.
Don’t open or spray at random
A short tutorial doesn’t always show the risks of working inside. For a simple diagnosis request, there is no need to take the controller apart. Describe the problem first.
Don’t pour liquid around the stick to attempt a DIY fix. If the controller was dropped or came into contact with liquid, say so. That context can guide the examination without automatically confirming the cause of the drift.
Compare repair and replacement after the diagnosis
The model and the fault determine the repair options. Ask what is planned, the quote and the warranty terms. A price found for another controller tells you nothing about your case.
